The Experience

Experiencing the joy of the “wind-in-your-hair” feeling over the beautiful Moorabool Valley Wine Region in an open cockpit biplane is one of lifes little pleasures. To also be able to share the experience with someone special is a truly unique experience and one that very few people can offer.

This unique experience is for you and your special someone in Victoria’s only three seat, fully open cockpit biplane. Yes, even the pilot is enjoying the breeze. Built as a crop spraying aircraft, the Grumman Ag-Cat has a dominating presence being over 10 feet tall and is powered by a 300-hp radial engine. As you will discover however, the Ag-Cat really is a pussy cat in the air, and an absolute joy to fly in.

Upon arrival at the airport, you will meet you pilot and ground crew, and be given a pre-flight safety briefing on all aspects of the flight. The briefing includes an overview of the flight detailing what you can expect and how to get the most out of your flight experience.

After the flight, you will ll be treated to a personalised wine and cheese tasting at Lethbridge Wines, only a stones throw from the hangar. The owners are not your average winemakers of a boutique winery. Both were initially trained as research scientists and hold PhD degrees in chemistry and medicine, respectively. While combining their scientific careers with winemaking, they completed the winemaking degree at Charles Sturt University. They believe, "winemaking is not really that different to science, both are creative and both involve 99% perspiration, 1% inspiration".

The Estate Vineyard in Lethbridge, originally planted in 1874 by Swiss immigrants was replanted by the owners of Lethbridge Wines in 1996. This vineyard is managed following the biodynamic principles of Rudolf Steiner and is currently seeking organic accreditation from the Biological Farmers of Australia (BFA).

Pregnant women and people with medical conditions that could be affected by flying are recommended to check with their doctor prior to flight.

We want to give you the most memorable experience we can so clear, calm conditions are best. If the wind is strong, or the cloud too low we will call you to reschedule your flight to a better day.

Flights can be taken for one or two people. We recommend taking someone with you to share the experience.

Spectators are more than welcome. There are park benches and tables at the airfield. You are welcome to make a day of it and bring a picnic lunch if you would like.

To make your flight more memorable, DVD's of the flight are available on the day at a cost of $100.

Flight time is 15 minutes from start-up to shut-down.

Dress Code

Normal casual dress appropriate for the conditions on the day, however we recommend you bring a heavy jacket as the cockpit can get quite chilly, even on a summers day.

Q: How many people can participate?
A: This is a 3 seater plane. We can fly with 1 or 2 passengers (plus the pilot), but highly recommend 2 passengers so you have someone to share the experience with.

Q: Is there any weight restrictions?
A: There is a maximum weight limit of 100kgs per passenger.

Q: How long is my flight time?
A: Flight time is 15 minutes and then allow additional time for your wine and cheese tasting.

Q: What happens if the weather is not good?
A: The pilot will make the call if the flight will go on or not. If the weather does not cooperate, your flight will be rescheduled for the next suitable date.

Q: When is the best time to fly?
A: We think that generally early morning or late afternoon is best to get calm conditions.
