The Experience

With this defensive driving course in Brisbane you will learn to take steps to minimise the risks associated with driving. We will provide information and some hands-on training to assist every driver in becoming safer driver.

The Defensive Driver Training Course has been developed to provide drivers with a greater understanding of the risks associated with operating vehicles in a variety of environments.

The course takes into consideration the requirements for employers and employees under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (1984) and has been designed to closely follow guidelines set by the Office of Road Safety, ATSB, WorkSafe and the RTA.

We identified that most car crashes are associated with -
· Disregard to road conditions
· Speeding
· Driving when tired
· Trip and time management
· Not wearing seat belts
· Vehicle loads

This course includes theory and practical sessions to develop safe driving behaviour.

Drivers will use their own vehicle during the practical components of this course (must be registered and subject to basic safety checks). All practical components are conducted at suburban traffic speeds and all relevant road laws must be adhered to at all times.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What are the key learning objectives?
A. The key learning objectives are:
* Through practical driving exercises, become more ‘speed aware’, particularly in how the degree of vehicle control difficulty increases exponentially in relation to increases in vehicle speeds.
* Develop an understanding of basic vehicle dynamics, in emergency situations
* Learn to predict potential hazards, identify risky situations and minimise danger
* Understand the importance of keeping your vision high and maintaining sensible safety margins around your vehicle at all times
* Develop a positive and proactive attitude towards defensive driving

Q: Why attend the course?
A: Novice drivers already think they are experts and that a crash won’t happen to them, but this course can reduce the risks, the embarrassment, injury and enormous costs of having a crash. The course is also heaps of fun and a great experience.

Q: Do we use skid-frames or skid pans in the Safe Drive Test Drive Program?
A: No, we do not use skid-frames as they provide artificial simulation of how a car behaves when skidding. Safe Drive Training does use a skid pan for our specialized Skid Pan Experience and Drift School Motorsport Program, but attendance is limited to drivers over 21 or those that have completed the Safe Drive Test Drive Program, these dedicated programs allow the time to correctly teach these techniques. Best practice training for novice drivers is for skill failure experiences that provide an insight into their own capabilities and a vehicles limitations.

Q: What benefits will I gain by attending the program
A: By attending this Defensive Driving Program you will be better prepared to be able to control your motor vehicle in the case of an emergency situation arising. You will have a better understanding of the conditions that can affect driving & what to do about them.

Q: Do I have to use my own car?
A: Yes. It will help you understand how your own vehicle will react in an emergency situation.
